Yoav Gallant, Israel’s defense minister, has supported his nation’s strategy in the war against Hamas, claiming that it will take time since “we are battling an axis, not a particular enemy.”
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Gallant expressed his concerns about the safety of patients and employees at Al-Aqsa Hospital, the only operational healthcare center in Gaza’s Middle Area where Israel and Hamas are shutting down. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) shared these concerns with Newsweek.
According to Gallant, Israel’s response was warranted given the scope of the Hamas strikes on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people and the kidnapping of over 200 others, some of whom continue to remain in captivity.
