Just 10 days before Christmas, LaShon Hudson got a phone call from a jail official in Missouri informing her of the tragic news of her son’s premature death at the age of 30.

Since then, the woman from Kansas City has received little information from the Missouri Department of Corrections.

She voiced her dissatisfaction, stating, “I’m lacking any answers and it’s making me crazy,” throughout a phone interview with The Star this week.

The Missouri Department of Corrections reports that Michael Hudson was one of the 134 inmates who passed away in 2023.

Proponents are worried about the large number of fatalities that are happening in the state’s prisons, arguing that the Department is not doing enough.
