An Indianapolis police officer shot and killed a fleeing motorist last Thursday during a traffic stop, Indianapolis police said.
Indianapolis police did not immediately release information about the traffic stop and the identity of the fleeing motorist.
Sgt. Genae Cook with the Indianapolis Police Department said officers decided the traffic stop at about 9:45 a.m. in northeast Indianapolis.
No officers in Indianapolis police were injured in the shooting incident, which remains under investigation
Immediately the driver killed by Indianapolis Police fled the vehicle, and a short foot chase occurred.
Indianapolis Police investigators said the first information suggested that an Indianapolis Police officer fired his weapon and shot the fleeing driver, who was later pronounced dead at the nearest hospital.
A firearm that didn’t belong to an Indianapolis Police officer was also found on the crime scene.
