Trayshaun Smith, a 23-year-old suspect, was discovered by authorities to be facing a murder charge in Cook County, Illinois, after he checked into a hospital in Lafayette, Indiana, on Thursday evening.

Lafayette, situated approximately 100 miles north of Cook County, is where the suspect sought medical assistance. Police promptly responded to the hospital upon learning of Smith’s presence, along with another individual who was also injured during the same incident. Fortunately, their injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. Lieutenant Justin Hartman of the Lafayette Police Department provided further details, stating, “It was determined that a three-year-old child at that location accessed a gun and fired one round, striking two people.” The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Mount Court in Lafayette.
The circumstances surrounding how the three-year-old obtained the firearm remain unclear, and no specific information was provided regarding the details of Smith’s arrest warrant.
The identity of the other victim involved in the shooting has not been disclosed at this time
