The state’s most hazardous sections of road for driving over the previous 5 years were parts of highways and roads that pass across South Carolina’s biggest cities.
The most speed-related accidents throughout 2019 and 2023 were found to occur on Interstate 85 in Greenville County and Interstate 26 in and near Charleston and Lexington counties, according to information gathered by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS).
Throughout the past 5 years, 2,760 crashes involving speed have occurred on I-85 in Greenville County, making up over fifty percent of all accidents. SCDPS reports that throughout the same period, a total of 397 road deaths in the county overall.
