Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a member of the GOP, on Thursday, made unsupported allegations that President Joe Biden was complicit in an illegal international bribery plot in a secret FBI document.
The unsecured FBI document, described as an FD-1023, was previously made available to members of the House Oversight Committee for private viewing but not for retrieval.
Republicans have been pressuring the FBI to make the paper public, but the bureau is refusing to do so, such as Grassley and House Oversight Chairman James Comer. To get the 2 sides to commit to a last-minute deal, Comer went so far as to keep FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt.
Grassley claimed on Thursday that he was allowed to disclose the paper on his own due to “legally secured revelations by Justice Department whistleblowers,” but the FBI strongly criticized his move in the media.
