If his party performs well in forthcoming statewide elections, Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin is prepared to reverse his state’s electric vehicle (EV) requirements.
As a result of legislation signed into law by the state’s former Democratic governor Ralph Northam before Youngkin’s election in 2021, Virginia ranks as one of Seventeen states that comply with all or part of California’s automobile emissions regulations.
Virginia, as well as Nevada, are the only 2 states with Republican governors who are also bound by California’s regulations, which mandate that all new cars sold in Virginia beginning in 2035 must be electric vehicles.
Despite having previously failed to do so, Youngkin is now attempting to have the policy repealed in his state.
