On Tuesday, a Galveston County, Texas, contractor found guilty of stealing from over thirty people—two of whom were World War II veterans—was given a ten-year prison term.
In Galveston County District Court, John James Thomas entered a plea deal just a few days before his trial was supposed to start. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office claims that Thomas participated in a construction fraud scam that scammed over thirty people. Judge Kerry Neves consequently sentenced him to 10 years in prison for two counts of cumulative stealing.
According to the district attorney’s office, this contractor’s conduct and acts exceeded ordinary civil disputes and qualified as first-degree felonies. This resulted from a consistent pattern of behavior.
