For a submarine exploring the Titanic rubbish, a search and rescue effort is in progress

After going lost in the North Atlantic on Sunday while traveling to the Titanic site, authorities are desperately trying to locate a private submarine with 5 individuals on board.

The rescue and search effort’s coordinator revealed that the 21-foot vessel has 4 days of emergency supplies as workers from the US and Canadian coast guards kept searching the ocean’s surface 900 miles east of Cape Cod employing sonar to monitor for sounds below the water, that goes up to 13,000 feet deeply in the region.

One pilot and 4 “mission specialists” made up the team of the vessel, which was on a tour to see the Titanic ruins, according to Rear Adm. John Mauger, commander of the US Coast Guard’s First District, who spoke at a press conference on Monday. He refused to name the 5 and stated that family members were still being contacted by officials.

To learn more about what the word “mission specialist” means, he directed journalists to the organization leading the journey, OceanGate Expeditions.
