Two people were killed and five others, including teenagers, were injured in a shooting incident that took place over the weekend in southwestern Arizona.
The Yuma Police Department reported that the shooting occurred on Saturday night during a gathering in a residential area of Yuma
The victims, aged between 15 and 20 years old, were all males. Upon receiving a call before 11 p.m. local time, officers arrived at the scene and discovered multiple individuals with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, aged 19 and 20, were rushed to Yuma Regional Medical Center but were pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
One of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, was initially taken to the same medical center but was later airlifted to Phoenix due to life-threatening injuries.
The injuries sustained by the remaining victims, aged 15, 16, 18, and 19, were not considered life-threatening
Off-duty officers who happened to be in the vicinity also responded to the shooting. The Yuma Police Department spokesperson, Sgt. Lori Franklin stated that investigators were conducting interviews with several witnesses on Sunday.
As of now, no suspect has been apprehended, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. The shooting in Yuma is the 33rd mass shooting of May 2023 and adds to the tally of over 215 mass shootings in the United States so far this year.
