Exhausted and emotionally drained, they anxiously awaited their luggage on Wednesday night in Boston. After escaping the deadly wildfires in Los Angeles, hundreds of passengers had finally landed, seeking respite from the harrowing experience.
Homes destroyed
“It really feels like the apocalypse,” said Laurie David. “I can count five friends now whose homes are gone, and I have a lot of friends who have no idea if their homes are gone.”
According to David, she raised her family in the Pacific Palisades, and even now, some of her family members still reside there. Unfortunately, the community is currently being ravaged by flames, causing widespread destruction. Her sister’s home has already been reduced to ashes, and her daughter’s home is now in danger. Expressing her disbelief, David remarked, “This used to be a vibrant and thriving community, and I can’t fathom how such devastation occurred so rapidly.”
Sebastian Antony, who was present at Disneyland when the fires initially broke out, described the chaotic scene as he made his way home on the interstate. The air was thick with smoke and ash, creating a sense of urgency. Antony expressed that while he had encountered wildfires in the past, the current situation was unlike anything he had ever experienced before.
“People are struggling”
Madison Greene, originally from Boston, made the decision to relocate to West Hollywood in August. Despite the smoke that enveloped the city, she decided to stay, as she shared during her interview with WBZ-TV from her rooftop.
“It’s so smoky I can feel it in my lungs,” Greene said. “I could smell it right away. I looked outside and everything is just covered in smoke. A lot of people’s houses have burned down, people don’t have anywhere to go, homeless people, animals. People are struggling.”
While on flights to LA, we came across a couple who were in the midst of moving there. Despite having planned the move months ago, the timing couldn’t have been worse. Mike, one half of the couple, shared their experience, saying, “Yesterday we were watching the news, and the day before we are supposed to leave, the whole city is on fire. There are obviously a lot of people who aren’t safe, and we feel terrible for them.”
