Elon Musk Slams Trump’s New Spending Bill: “It’s a Disgusting Abomination”

Elon Musk isn’t holding back. In a string of fiery posts on his social platform X, the billionaire entrepreneur tore into a new federal spending bill backed by former President Donald Trump—calling it “a disgusting abomination” and accusing lawmakers of betraying the public.

Musk Unleashes on Capitol Hill

The post that set it all off came early Tuesday morning, when Musk wrote:
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it—you know you did wrong.”

That message quickly went viral, and it wasn’t the only one. Musk followed up with more criticism, blasting the bill for bloating the national deficit and warning of long-term economic damage. His stance is clear: this bill, if passed, could drive the U.S. further into unsustainable debt.

What’s in the Bill That Has Musk So Angry?

The legislation in question, nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” is packed with spending provisions—many of which Musk and others say are filled with unnecessary “pork,” or funding for pet projects that don’t serve the greater good.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill could add nearly $4 trillion to the federal debt, pushing the U.S. deficit to a projected $2.5 trillion. That’s an eye-popping number, even in Washington.

But for Musk, it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about principle. As someone who briefly headed a government reform project aimed at cutting wasteful spending (humorously named the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE), Musk sees this bill as a betrayal of that mission.

Tesla and Clean Energy in the Crosshairs

Musk also has personal and professional reasons to oppose the bill. It includes proposals to roll back clean energy incentives—many of which were part of the Inflation Reduction Act. That means potential cuts to electric vehicle tax credits, wind and solar investments, and other green initiatives.

Tesla, which has benefited from those EV incentives, would almost certainly take a hit. On top of that, the bill introduces new registration fees for electric vehicles: $250 a year for EVs and $100 for hybrids. Critics say that punishes drivers who are trying to make environmentally conscious choices.

Political Backlash and Support

Reactions on Capitol Hill have been mixed. House Speaker Mike Johnson pushed back against Musk’s comments, calling them “very disappointing” and saying Musk is “terribly wrong” about the bill’s intent.

But not everyone in the GOP is on board with the spending package. Fiscal conservatives like Senator Rand Paul and Congressman Thomas Massie have echoed Musk’s concerns, arguing that the country can’t afford another huge round of government spending.

Musk’s Warning for 2026

Musk isn’t just speaking out—he’s calling for political consequences. In one of his posts, he urged voters to remember this bill when they go to the polls:
“In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

With the 2026 midterms on the horizon, that’s a clear signal that Musk plans to stay vocal—and possibly influential—in the political arena.

What Happens Next?

The bill narrowly passed the House by just one vote and now heads to the Senate, where its fate is uncertain. The backlash, including Musk’s, is fueling debates not just about the bill itself but about the broader direction of the Republican Party.

For now, one thing is clear: Elon Musk is done playing nice with Washington—and he’s not afraid to say it out loud.
