The El Salvador former president Alfredo Cristiani was accused of being involved in the 1989 Jesuits massacre that killed eight people, including six priests.
During the investigation, El Salvador prosecutors claimed that the former president approved the plot to kill the six Jesuit priests and two others during a meeting with other officials and military officers, AP News reported.
The former president denied the allegations or any involvement in the massacre of the eight victims; however, it was revealed that he even called one of the Jesuit priests, Rev. Ignacio Ellacuría, several times before the tragic murder.

The El Salvador former president faced charges after his alleged involvement in murdering six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper, and the housekeeper’s daughter, planning to make the massacre look like leftist guerillas did it.
Following the allegations, the former president and several other high-ranking military officials faced multiple charges despite repeatedly denying their involvement in the 1989 Jesuit massacre.
