A 26-year-old woman, identified as Sarah Ramsammy, was taken into custody during the Memorial Day weekend in Florida following a series of alarming events at Smyrna Dunes Park.
Eyewitnesses reported that the drunk woman was driving in a highly erratic manner, narrowly avoiding collisions with multiple families, children, and even pets
According to authorities, the incident reached its climax when Ramsammy’s vehicle, a blue SUV, careened into the water after allegedly speeding along the beach at an estimated 50 miles per hour. Witnesses stated that she came perilously close to striking a child. Shocking body camera footage reveals the submerged SUV along the shoreline, with waves crashing just above the trunk. Deputies at the scene questioned witnesses about the driver’s identity, to which one individual replied, “They’re over there. We’re just some of the people they almost hit.”
Deputies approached Ramsammy and her passenger, who was found standing on the sandy beach, and inquired about the situation
Ramsammy appeared uncertain about the events, stating, “I’m not sure. I was the driver, and they kind of stopped us and told us that we almost hit a child. I didn’t think that we did. That’s what they told us.” Later, she informed the deputies, “We were just trying to turn around. We didn’t think that we’d get to do a U-turn around here, so we just tried to keep going.”
The arresting deputy informed Ramsammy that she was being taken into custody, to which she questioned, “And why am I going to jail?” In response, the deputy stated, “So, right now I think you’re driving under the influence.” Investigators later revealed that Ramsammy’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was 0.153, twice the legal limit for operating a vehicle. Consequently, she was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and reckless driving. Additionally, Ramsammy received a citation for failure to comply with a traffic control device.
