The cases of catalytic converter thefts decreased in New Mexico following an approved ordinance prohibiting unlicensed dealers from selling them illegally, wherein local councils have implemented several efforts after the visible increase of catalytic converter thefts in various states before.
According to a report published in KOB4, the decreasing catalytic converter thefts were also dealt with by the newly signed law that required dealers in New Mexico to keep track of every transaction related to catalytic converter to have records to go back to during investigations of catalytic converter thefts.
With almost 150 catalytic converter thefts reported, there are still a few thieves targeting catalytic converters, which contain metals that can sell for up to thousands of dollars increasing catalytic converter thefts to more than 300 reports from the previous year.
Local Authorities in New Mexico Encourage Vehicle Owners to Take Preventive Measures Amidst Cases of Catalytic Converter Thefts
Following the cases of catalytic converter thefts, local authorities in New Mexico encouraged vehicle owners to take preventive measures to avoid being targeted by thieves, Yahoo News reported.
Vehicle owners are also advised to be more diligent in parking areas and get insurance coverage that will help them reduce the repair or replacement costs if they happen to be targeted in catalytic converter thefts.
