The agreement, reached on Tuesday, marks Dajohn Yarborough’s guilty plea concerning the slaying of Darrell Lamont Sims II.
Dajohn Yarborough, a resident of Minneapolis, has opted to accept a 40-year prison sentence for the fatal shooting of another man outside an apartment complex in April 2022
The tragic incident unfolded at an apartment complex situated near the intersection of 24th Street and Elliot Avenue South. According to law enforcement officials, Dajohn Yarborough discharged a firearm, striking Sims, who was standing outside the complex. Yarborough was reported to be armed with a gun featuring an extended magazine.
Sims, hit in the chest, attempted to flee the scene, ultimately collapsing in the backyard of a nearby residence. Shockingly, Dajohn Yarborough continued to discharge rounds, even as the victim was in flight.
Dajohn Yarborough’s identity was established through surveillance footage, and informants subsequently confirmed him as the perpetrator
However, it took over a year following the shooting for Dajohn Yarborough to be apprehended. This tragic event occurred within a year of Dajohn Yarborough’s release from prison, where he had been serving time for a drug and weapons-related case. At the time of the shooting, he was considered a fugitive, having absconded from his supervised release.
