Current and Former Virginia Deputy Indicted Over 77-Year-Old Man’s Death

Tyler Poe, a current Virginia deputy in the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Zachary Fadely, a former Virginia deputy, were indicted on assault charges Monday after 77-year-old man Ralph Ennis, who was suffering from dementia, died following his arrest.

The current and former Virginia deputy reportedly signaled the 77-year-old man to stop after they noticed him driving recklessly and speeding, but he failed and continued his speed.

According to the current and former Virginia deputy, the 77-year-old did not stop driving for several minutes despite them activating their sirens before he stopped in a parking lot of a convenience store, AP News reported.

Current and Former Virginia Deputy Face Charges After Injuring 77-Year-Old Man During Arrest

During the investigation, the 77-year-old man can be seen confused and disoriented during the arrest of the current and former Virginia deputy on a bodycam video.

The victim’s family claimed that Ennis suffered from a severe head injury after the current and former Virginia deputy tackled him, leading to his death two weeks after his arrest.

The current and the former Virginia deputy were charged with a felony charge of unlawful wounding.
