As per an exclusive investigation by The Wall Street Journal, Chinese nationals have recently gained access to a hundred times to key U.S. military facilities and other locations.
U.S. officials were quoted in the newspaper as saying that the cases might have been acts of espionage.
According to the newspaper, an assessment was conducted last year by the US Department of Defense, FBI, and additional agencies to reduce the number of such incidents, which entailed unauthorized access to US military bases and various federal sites.
As per the Journal, the majority of the events happened in rural areas, far from popular tourist destinations and commercial airports.
According to the Journal, on one such occasion, Chinese nationals were discovered scuba diving off Cape Canaveral, which is where the Kennedy Space Center is located.
Based on the Journal, authorities claimed that there had been numerous instances of Chinese nationals disguised as visitors swimming close to an intelligence center in Key West at a different site in Florida.
