The robbers, who were identified as three to five young Black men between 15 and 25 years old, committed a total of 12 robberies on the West and Northwest Sides of the city.
The Chicago police have reported a series of armed robberies that occurred over the weekend and on Monday
According to the police, the suspects drove around in a black Kia SUV with Florida license plates. They would exit the car, approach their victims, steal their property, and flee within minutes. The robbers wore masks and dark clothing to conceal their identities.
The robberies were reported between 5:40 a.m. and 6:50 a.m. at various locations across the city. The first robbery occurred on Saturday in the 3400 block of West 27th Street, and the last occurred on Monday in the 4300 block of West Potomac Avenue.
The police have advised residents in the area to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately
They have also urged anyone with information about the robberies to contact the authorities. These incidents come amid a rise in crime rates in several major US cities, including Chicago. Law enforcement officials have attributed the spike to various factors, including the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent protests against police brutality.
