Borrowers throughout the country are worried following the Supreme Court’s current decision to invalidate student loan forgiveness in late June.

It’s a choice that will significantly affect the financial situations of millions of individuals, especially those in Central Texas.

President Joe Biden recently stated in a news conference after the decision, “I understand there are a lot of Americans, millions of Americans in this nation who feel dissatisfied, frustrated, and at times little upset regarding the outcome of the choice made today on student debt.” And I have to say; I do too.”

Texas has the second-highest average student debt in the nation, at $33,000, per person, based on studentdebt.org.

This is Teresa Williams’ situation, a 66-year-old citizen of Belton. She was hurt to learn that student loan forgiveness had been overturned as a former nurse.

“The student loan haunts you always, and it’s so unequal,” Williams stated. It wasn’t like we had a fantastic life while paying off college loans. The school was funded by us. I got frustrated with the Supreme Court since they hadn’t thought of anything.”
