Driver kills at least eight outside Texas migrant shelter in the possible intentional incident

The incident is being investigated by police as possibly intentional. The driver of the Land Rover disregarded a red light before swerving into the bus stop, witnesses reported. Some of the individuals who died were confirmed to be migrants, according to Martin Sandoval, a spokesperson for the Brownsville Police Department. The driver, who was detained by witnesses at the scene, is receiving medical care and is expected to face criminal charges. Police are running tests to see if the driver was intoxicated. The shelter receives around 80 to 120 migrants per day, said Myrna Arteaga, the manager of the Ozanam Center.

The incident was described as “horrific” by Arteaga

Several roads were closed as police conducted their investigation. While witnesses claim that the car lost control, authorities have not yet determined whether the crash was accidental or intentional. Brownsville police have described the crash as a “major accident” and are asking people to find alternative routes due to the road closures. The investigation is ongoing, and police have promised to provide more information as it becomes available.
