The exchange of gunfire occurred attempted murder of a police officer around 6:45 p.m. within the South Shore neighborhood near the vicinity of 2400 East 72nd Street.
A 30-year-old man from Markham is facing charges of attempted murder of a police officer after engaging in a shootout with Chicago police officers on Saturday evening
Law enforcement officers from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) were in the midst of a narcotics investigation when the suspect, identified as Shaquille Parker, opted to flee on foot. In a swift response, the officers pursued Parker, who then turned and attempted murder of a police officer, according to CPD sources. In an act of self-defense, an officer fired back, ultimately striking Parker on the left side of his body. The wounded suspect was immediately transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Although one of the shots discharged during the exchange penetrated a nearby residence, fortunately, no occupants were harmed. Miraculously, none of the law enforcement officers sustained injuries either from the attempted murder of a police officer. Subsequently, authorities successfully recovered both a firearm and substances suspected to be narcotics from the scene.

Eyewitnesses residing in the vicinity recounted the events that transpired. One woman, who chose to remain anonymous, recalled the sequence leading up to the confrontation.
The witness went on to express the collective frustration felt by neighbors in the aftermath of the incident, highlighting their desire for transparency and accountability from the police. She further emphasized the imperative of enhancing the sense of safety within the community, both in terms of interactions with law enforcement and general well-being.
As the attempted murder of a police officer investigation unfolds, the incident is currently being probed by detectives and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. Any officers involved will be temporarily assigned to routine administrative duties for a span of 30 days.
