A recent attack at Lake Johnson Park’s greenway has left many women feeling unsafe when walking alone on trails

The incident has caused women like Amanda Fielding-Smith and Cassandra Salem to become more cautious and aware of their surroundings when walking alone. This is not the first time an attack has occurred in the area. Just a month ago, a woman reported being attacked on the Walnut Creek Trail Greenway off of Lake Wheeler Road, and the suspect has yet to be identified.

Additionally, Durham Police are searching for a man accused of inappropriately touching people in the Copper Leaf Parkway subdivision since March.

Eleanor Sykes, who leads a women’s running group in Raleigh, has advised women not to run alone and to only use one earbud while listening to music, in order to be more aware of their surroundings

Raleigh Police have also reminded greenway users to stay alert and avoid being alone, as well as refraining from using headphones.

The recent attack at Lake Johnson Park has caused concern among trail-goers, particularly women who may feel more vulnerable when walking alone. It is important for authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of those using the trails, and for individuals to remain vigilant and cautious when enjoying outdoor activities.
