At High School Track Meet: Police Arrest A Parent After Allegedly Trying To Run Over Students With A Truck

On Thursday, police authorities arrested a parent attempting to run over students in his truck at a high school track meet in Huerfano County.

On Thursday, Police received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a man trying to run over students with a truck at a high school track meet in Huerfano County. HCSO deputies responded immediately and arrested Jose Luiz Mendez. HCSO posted on Facebook that Mendez has pending charges and arrest warrants.

High School Track Meet incident did not involve staff or volunteers, coaches, and students. The conflict is between Mendez and one adult. John Mall High School Track coach stated.

Many of the students running the meet has taken by their parents because of the incident and drove to the end of the High School Track Meet.

Postponement of High School Track Meet

John Toplyn, head coach and organizer, announced the postponement of the activity. He apologizes to all participating schools and the parents. He added that the situation was not ideal and was sad that the meet canceled. Police heightened their alert because of the incident.

The safety of the students must come first, the main reason for the suspension.
