An individual from Arizona has been given a 58-year prison sentence after being found guilty by a jury for the fatal shooting of his wife and roommate in 2020.
The incident occurred on May 18, 2020, when Estevanico Palmares, now 40 years old, used a firearm to fatally shoot his wife, 30-year-old Christina Palmares, as well as a 35-year-old man
The tragic event unfolded near the intersection of I-10 and 48th Street. Law enforcement officers had been dispatched to the residence at around 3:15 p.m. that day in response to reports of gunshots heard earlier in the day. Upon arrival, they discovered both victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, led by Rachel Mitchell, revealed in a recent press release that Palmares and his wife had a documented history of domestic violence, which was presented as evidence during the trial. Shockingly, just two days before her death, Christina Palmares purchased the same handgun that was ultimately used to kill her.
The jury’s verdict found Estevanico Palmares guilty of second-degree murder a couple of months ago, and now a judge has sentenced him to 58 years behind bars
It is worth noting that Palmares was already prohibited from possessing a handgun at the time of the killings. Consequently, the judge handed down an additional concurrent sentence for one count of misconduct involving weapons.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell emphasized the importance of this case, stating, “This case is an example of the harm that comes to a family and a community when a prohibited possessor with a violent history gains access to a firearm. This person will serve the maximum prison sentence, so he is unable to hurt someone else.”
