The 42-year-old Arin Fox, charged with the murder of both Noreen S. Gilard, 69, and Leonard J. Gilard, 73, in October 2020, entered a guilty but mentally ill plea specifically for Noreen Gilard’s death as part of a plea agreement. The victims were discovered stabbed to death in separate bedrooms at their Algonquin residence, where Arin Fox had been living with the couple, her boyfriend’s parents. Following the heinous act in November 2020, Fox fled to Douglas County, Colorado, where she was apprehended after driving the victims’ car.
Details emerged about the crime scene
During the court proceedings, a former Algonquin police detective noted that a butcher knife believed to be the murder weapon, was found in the kitchen sink with apparent attempts to wash it, though blood traces were still visible between the blade and the handle.
In defense of his client, Arin Fox’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Kyle Kunz, argued for a 40-year sentence, acknowledging the brutality of the crime but emphasizing Arin Fox’s compromised mental state at the time, citing her being off medications and undergoing a mental break during the tragic incident. The sentencing reflects the complex intersection of mental health and criminal responsibility in this unfortunate case involving Arin Fox.
