A high school student in Phoenix is facing multiple felony charges after being accused of bringing an AR-15 rifle and ammunition onto campus

The situation unfolded on Friday afternoon when the police received a call about a student carrying a firearm at Bostrom High School. School administrators immediately notified the authorities upon learning of the potential threat shortly before 1 p.m., leading to a prompt investigation.

Subsequent investigation confirmed the accuracy of the report, and local authorities swiftly apprehended the male juvenile student in the school’s main office. During the arrest, officers discovered additional ammunition in the student’s lunchbox and backpack. As a precautionary measure, the high school district placed the campus on lockdown while the investigation was underway.

The Phoenix Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Unit is collaborating closely with school and district officials in handling the case. The police praised the individuals who initially reported the presence of a possible weapon on school grounds and commended the prompt action taken by adults on campus who immediately contacted the authorities.

Authorities have not released information regarding the origin of the semi-automatic rifle or the student’s motive for bringing it to school

Due to being a minor, the student’s name and age have been withheld. This incident follows closely on the heels of a tragic shooting in Farmington, New Mexico, where an 18-year-old individual used an AR-15-style rifle and two other firearms to kill three people and injure six others, including two police officers.

The recent events have reignited concerns about the accessibility and potential misuse of firearms in educational settings.
