Anthony Pearson, 53, is facing severe charges including first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and burglary, following the brutal death of 66-year-old Curtis McKinney on September 11

The families of both Anthony Pearson and McKinney are grappling with questions surrounding the lead-up to this devastating incident. Leanna Williamson, McKinney’s cousin, reported to Sikeston police in the early hours of Monday, recounting her desperate plea that someone was attempting to break into her home. Tragically, just hours later, McKinney lost his life.

The scene revealed a grim tableau, with a bloodied brick and typewriter suggesting they were instruments in McKinney’s fatal beating. Sergeant Tyler Rowe of Sikeston DPS confirmed McKinney sustained severe injuries to his face and skull, indicative of a violent altercation with Anthony Pearson.

JeLyric Hunt, McKinney’s granddaughter, recounted the harrowing moment when she discovered Anthony Pearson inside her grandfather’s home

Hunt, upon entering, encountered Anthony Pearson and later found her grandfather lifeless in his bedroom. Questions now linger about the initial response of law enforcement. Family members are left wondering why Anthony Pearson was not taken into custody when the first 911 call was made. Williamson expressed her frustration, emphasizing that timely intervention could have prevented this tragedy. Investigators note that Anthony Pearson has a history of criminal offenses, including prior convictions for burglary and resisting arrest.
