An MTA worker loses their life in a tragic incident at the 34th Street Herald Square Station

Overnight, a horrible event happened in Midtown: an unfortunate accident featuring a subway train claimed the life of an MTA track worker. Given that this tragedy occurred only 1 month before his first anniversary with the agency, it is especially heartbreaking.

Just before 12:15 a.m., 57-year-old Hilarion Joseph was part of a cleaning staff at the 34 St-Herald Square station.

Following the planned maintenance, a northbound D train was running slowly, about 10 mph, and he got into contact with it and was dragged.

After Joseph was taken to Bellevue Hospital, doctors confirmed him dead.
