A boardwalk ambassador pulled off Officer Salvatore Rando Jr. on Tuesday at around 4:47 p.m. regarding a man who seemed to be in trouble. This man was eventually recognized as Darren Brathwaite.

At Hartford Avenue and the beach, Brathwaite was observed entering the water.

Officer Rando discovered Brathwaite, who was visibly upset and originally resisted getting out of the water, in waist-deep water.

Brathwaite was convinced to get out of the water and proceed to the coastline with the help of other responding cops and EMS workers. Officer Rebecca Seabrook and EMS staff then met up with him there.

To be evaluated, Brathwaite was taken by EMS to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. After a quick inquiry, it was discovered that Brathwaite was sought for a murder attempt and had been linked to an incident of domestic violence in Brooklyn, New York.

Following his arrest, Brathwaite was given a Fugitive from Justice conviction. He is being housed at the Atlantic County Justice Facility seeking extradition to New York.
