A man is accused of murdering his girlfriend with a knife and then setting fire to her body. According to CBS News,
Detroit police arrested a 42-year-old man on Monday on charges of fatally stabbing and strangling his 48-year-old girlfriend.
Cortez Coleman was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Stacy Smith on June 15, according to Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy.
According to Worthy, Detroit Police were called to a residence in the 20340 block of Berg Road at 11:20 p.m. on June 9. Smith’s corpse was discovered in her bedroom. She was stabbed in the breast and burned on her right leg, according to reports. Cortez Coleman is accused of burning Smith’s right leg, stabbing her with a knife, and strangling her before fleeing the house, according to the prosecution.
Coleman is scheduled to appear in court following his criminal accusation. He was detained by police on June 12th.
Coleman was charged with a crime on June 15. He is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on July 5 and a preliminary inquiry on July 12.
