The police arrested a man in New Mexico as a suspect in the 1986 murder case, killing a woman in her Garland home.
The police said that when the initial homicide investigators showed up at the house in the 3600 block of Colbath, they discovered blood drops outside the home.
The blood that did not belong to the murder case victim Barbara Villareal had been stabbed inside, and to solve the murder case, the blood was tested, and it did not come back as the husband of Barbara Villareal, and the murder case went cold for 37 years.

Years went by, and Marc Dunderman, brother of the victim of the murder case, said their family suspected someone who killed the victim

Detective Shupe said Garland PD could submit preserved blood samples collected outside the home and submitted it to the laboratory for DNA genealogy typing. The result became enough probable cause for the judge in New Mexico to sign the arrest warrant of a 37-Year-Old murder case suspect. The 37-Year-Old murder case suspect is now 85 years old, and he is the brother-in-law of Barbara Villareal. He admitted his involvement in the murder case, saying he was angry with Villareal over a prior misunderstanding. The husband of the murder case victim died in Mexico in the early 1990s.
