According to the arrest record, a deputy saw a Nissan Murano going at a high rate of speed on Interstate 75 in Naples shortly after midnight on July 19. According to investigators, the driver was speeding at 117 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone, as detected by the deputy’s radar.

The officer attempted to pull over the driver, but they refused to stop — the deputy stated in the driver’s arrest report that he was driving above 120 mph in an attempt to catch up to the speeder.

Gary Miller allegedly pulled off the freeway at the next exit and drove away from the deputy.

The deputy noted in Gary Miller’s arrest report, “It was apparent to me that the driver was attempting to flee from a marked patrol vehicle.”

Gary Miller allegedly pulled into the community, but it was gated, so he became stranded, and the deputy was able to stop him in the entry.

Gary Miller allegedly “immediately opened the driver’s door” and “exited the vehicle with his hands in the air,” according to the arrest report.

Gary Miller was handcuffed and placed in the back of the deputy’s squad car. According to his arrest record, he told the deputy inside the car that he panicked when he noticed the police lights behind him.

Gary Miller allegedly informed the deputy he was on his way to the Fort Myers casino. The only casino in the area, however, was east of his position, in Immokalee, not Fort Myers.

According to his arrest report, Dispatch checked Miller’s driving record and determined he only has a learner’s permit.

Gary Miller was arrested for felony running or escaping police. His arraignment is set for August 14th at 8:30 a.m.
