Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to all residents of Oregon
Many immigrants gathered in front of the Capitol last Thursday. They demanded that lawmakers pass the bill that would grant them to avail of SNAP benefits.
The proposed bill is known as Food for All Oregonians. The bill will grant food assistance programs to ineligible people for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) because of immigration status.
Those ineligible people include permanent residents who have not yet been naturalized or have not been in the country in a short time. If the bill is approved, a program within the Department of Health and Human Services will create to qualify for SNAP benefits even with a problem with immigration status.
