The departure of prominent artists like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell from the popular music streaming service Spotify has resulted in a significant exodus of its users.
About Spotify Update
Spotify has been besieged with cancellation requests over the past week or two, all because of a dispute between a famous musician and a prominent podcast host.
Neil Young has publicly accused Joe Rogan, whose podcast is exclusive to Spotify, of disseminating false information about the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and has demanded that Rogan’s podcast be taken down if his music isn’t. Many users are disappointed that Spotify picked Rogan over Young and has since pulled the majority of Young’s music from the service.
Many Spotify listeners are outraged by the service’s decision to remove music by Young and other popular musicians including Joni Mitchell and Nils Lofgren. Twitter users said last week that Spotify momentarily disabled live customer service due to a high volume of inquiries.
Here is how you may terminate your Spotify Premium account immediately. Here’s where to find Young’s music if you’re thinking about leaving Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube Music in favor of another service.

How to Stop Your Monthly Spotify Premium
- First, there is no way to terminate your Spotify membership from within the service’s mobile apps (for iOS, Android, Mac, or Windows). A web browser on your mobile device, tablet, or computer is required to access your Spotify account. What I mean is this:
- Access your Spotify account at spotify.com/account and sign in.
- You can modify your subscription by going to Account Overview > Your plan > Changing plan.
- Next, select Cancel Premium from the list of available plans.
- Confirm the cancellation by clicking Yes, cancel.
What If You Cancel Your Spotify Premium Subscription
You will not lose access to the Spotify service altogether; instead, you will be downgraded to the free tier, which will still allow you to listen to music but will do so with adverts.
All of your saved playlists and songs will remain intact. If your next payment is not due for a few more days or weeks, your premium account will remain active for the time being.
If you don’t see a button to modify your plan, it’s possible that you’re receiving your subscription as part of a bundle from another provider, such as your mobile carrier, your internet service provider, or Apple.

If this is the case, you’ll need to get in touch with the outside service in order to terminate your subscription. If you have an iPhone and want to view the Apple-billed services you subscribe to, you may do so by navigating to Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions.
You may also terminate your Spotify subscription by filling out and sending us this paper form.
Leaving a family plan as a participant rather than the plan manager does not cancel your subscription. This is something only the plan’s owner can do.
