Kurt Busch, renowned as the first NASCAR champion in the Playoff era, has declared his retirement from the Cup Series competition

Following the announcement, Kurt Busch engaged with reporters at the Daytona International Speedway media center, shedding light on his journey.

Kurt Busch’s decision stems from a medical assessment indicating that he has been unable to regain the full prowess that marked his exceptional career as a top-tier NASCAR driver. Kurt Busch expressed gratitude to his fans, family, friends, sponsors, and team members who supported him throughout his career. The veteran racer’s evolution from his early days as a 22-year-old prodigy in 2001 to his matured self was acknowledged.

While stepping away from the competitive track, Kurt Busch will continue contributing in a consulting capacity with 23XI Racing, a team co-owned by fellow driver Denny Hamlin and NBA icon Michael Jordan. Notably, Kurt Busch was associated with 23XI Racing’s No. 45 Toyota until an accident at Pocono Raceway hindered his participation.

Having clinched the inaugural NASCAR Playoff title in 2004, Kurt Busch’s achievements have left an indelible mark

Throughout his illustrious career spanning 23 seasons, the Las Vegas native secured victory in 34 NASCAR Cup Series races, notably including the prestigious 2017 Daytona 500. Alongside his brother Kyle Busch, the Busch siblings attained a combined total of 97 Cup victories, cementing their status as the most successful sibling duo in the sport’s history.

As Kurt Busch concludes his NASCAR Cup journey, Kurt Busch expressed a desire to recover and venture into other racing realms, despite physical challenges associated with aging. The 45-year-old reflected, “My body is just having a battle with Father Time… I’m just pushing to get through physical therapy and continue the workouts.”
