Mayfield was unable to secure a roster spot

A report from AP News stated that as a rookie in 2021, Mayfield started 16 games at left guard but was out of action in 2017 due to a back issue. He concentrated on tackle during this year’s training camp, made his preseason debut at right tackle against Miami, and was competing for a roster spot behind starters Jake Matthews and Kaleb McGary.

After Matt Hennessy, who was vying for the left guard starting position, was lost for the season, Mayfield was let go. On August 16, Hennessey was put on injured reserve after sustaining what appeared to be a knee injury. At left guard, rookie Matthew Bergeron, a second-round selection from Syracuse, is anticipated to start.

Mayfield was unable to secure a roster spot despite his capacity to offer depth at both guard and tackle.
