Jacksonville State emerged victorious with a 34-31 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl on Saturday

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks (9-4) faced adversity throughout the game, battling against the odds after committing four turnovers, three of which were turned into touchdowns by the opposing team. Despite these setbacks, running back Ron Wiggins proved instrumental, rushing for an impressive 126 yards and contributing a crucial score.

Safety Jalen Clark of Louisiana-Lafayette (6-7) made his presence felt with two remarkable touchdowns—a 46-yard fumble return and a 16-yard interception return. Tyree Skipper, another safety for the Cajuns, added to the defensive spectacle with a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown, propelling his team to a 31-24 lead in the fourth quarter.

As the clock wound down, the resilience of Jacksonville State became evident. Garrison Rippa’s accurate leg came into play during overtime, as he successfully kicked a 27-yard field goal that ultimately secured the Gamecocks’ triumph.

The victory marked a significant milestone for Jacksonville State in its debut FBS season, capping off the campaign on a high note

Throughout the intense matchup, Louisiana-Lafayette quarterback Chandler Fields managed a lone offensive touchdown with a 1-yard run. Kicker Kenneth Almendares added a 33-yard field goal that played a pivotal role in tying the game at 24-all during the fourth quarter.

In the annals of Jacksonville State’s football history, this hard-fought win against Louisiana-Lafayette stands as a testament to the team’s determination and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on their inaugural FBS season.
