An impressive artwork north of London’s King’s Cross train station honors the Apollo missions and the twelve men who walked on the moon. On Lower Stable Street, over 50 lightboxes display stunning photographs, including Apollo 8 astronauts’ close-ups of the lunar surface and Gene Cernan’s portraits on Apollo 17’s “moon buggy.” Andy Saunders’ outstanding book Apollo Remastered has all the analog, recently remastered pictures.
Moonwalkers: Tom Hanks Narrates Immersive Lunar Journey at Lightroom
The showpiece of this lunar tribute is Lightroom, a four-story art space. “The Moonwalkers: A Journey With Tom Hanks” costs £25 for adults and £15 for children for an hour-long immersive event.
Hollywood celebrity Tom Hanks narrates a movie that covers all four walls of a large space and sometimes turns the floor like the moon. Remastered photographs and archive films show iconic occasions including a Saturn V rocket launch and a sweeping moon valley vista from Apollo 17.
Tom Hanks, who played Apollo 13 astronaut Captain Jim Lovell, offers personal Apollo mission insights throughout the immersive experience. NASA’s Artemis II crew, the first crewed moon trip since 1972, is interviewed. Artemis II will orbit Earth twice before testing Orion’s life support systems 4,600 miles beyond the moon in 2024 or 2025.

Artemis Missions: Tom Hanks Reflects on Lunar Landings and Future Space Exploration
Although timely, these interviews may not provide much insight because Artemis II won’t land on the moon like Apollo 8. Artemis III, in the mid to late 2020s, will see astronauts land on the moon like Apollo.
Hanks, the co-author of “The Moonwalkers” with Christopher Riley, tells these space adventures in a way that accentuates humanity’s 55-year-old accomplishment. This immersive simulation reminds us of the space exploration pause and shows us the exciting future ahead as NASA prepares for the Artemis missions.
