Kiefer Sutherland gives a character who becomes more intriguing with each episode a neurotic, captivating, and occasionally humorous spin. The first scene features a flashback of John as a little child sitting at the dinner table with his parents.
You can clearly see in these moments why John became paranoid as an adult. John’s mother walks into his office while he and his father smoke a candy cigarette together.
She can’t stand the phone because it keeps clicking. By disassembling the phone and cutting out the phone lines, his father exhibits paranoia. He claims there are no longer any phones.
Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 2 Recap
Who tries to kidnap Hailey?
Outside of her hotel, someone tried to grab Hailey, but Johns manages to save her. Two agents come up to her and ask her to leave the hotel with them, as seen by John.
He reveals what appears to be a badge when Hailey asks them who they are employed by. She senses something is odd when they approach the brand-new Mercedes, but the man who flashed a badge claims it is a personal vehicle.
When Hailey pushes back, she is tasered. John approaches them at that point brandishing a camera phone and urging everyone else to do the same. Both of the attackers are punched by Hailey, and they flee.
He grabs a mallet and destroys a wall when they reach his hiding place. He produces many bags of cash and even a laptop.
John continues to believe she is an employee. Hailey might be at the wrong place at the wrong moment if she isn’t. The entire situation at the hotel was probably staged for John to take her in (if she is involved).
When John takes out the computer, she shows him his profile on the dating site.

Who Created John S Profile on The Dating App?
John uses the same password Cara does for everything because he believes his coworkers set him up on a dating app because he is lonely. He is then charged with being a maniac or a loser by Hailey.
Edward Homm rushes up the stairs from the basement while wearing a blindfold and crashes into a wall while John tries to make his case. Hailey is thrown into a trunk by John, who then takes her on a ride before releasing her.
She won’t leave, even if it’s only a coincidence, because someone tried to kidnap and kill her. She, therefore, believes that John is her best chance of surviving.
John questions Valence’s second-in-command, Xander, about what is occurring in the restroom. Xander claims he has no knowledge of Valence’s activities.
Also, he doesn’t know who messaged Valence just before the jump. This discussion demonstrates that there was more to the images Weir showed Valence than just Homm and the woman shaking hands.
We now understand that the last image in the pilot, which Weir instructed Valence to examine, was a photograph of Homm, who had been shot in the head. It is clear that this was staged. But why would Valence request that Weir murder someone?
And why, if only to ensure his survival, did he consent? Weir is not informed by Xander who ordered the hit on Homm.

What Does John Steal at The Police Station?
John leaves the police station with Valence’s authenticator key. The focus of this episode is John’s investigation into the identity of the messager who requested access to Valence’s data.
Since there is no other method to do so and Valence has the key, it must be taken from a police station. His intern locks the police station’s doors after him as he departs.
Because a detective and Madi were chasing after John but are now trapped inside, we originally believe he is assisting John. In addition to attacking John, the intern is pursuing the box’s authenticator.
The interaction between an older man and a younger boy with some military spy training is amusing. Hailey strikes John with Weir’s car as he prepares to strike him with his skateboard.
He enters, picks up the authenticator off the floor, and walks out.

Who Is Waiting in The House when John and Hailey Return?
An older man who happens to be John’s father shows up when John and Hailey get back to the safe house. This is odd because John frequently muses over his father’s passing as he is driving back.
When a bird was shot through the wall with a shotgun, John was there to witness it. The safe house is John’s childhood home because we can observe the same devastation there. John witnessed his father’s head being blown out from the back as a child. He’s now in John’s kitchen, but he doesn’t appear astonished to see him.
