Will Lionel Messi join Inter Milan when his PSG contact expires in 2023?

Inter Miami has shown interest in the soccer player, Messi, as they want to acquire the best players possible.

Lionel Messi, a forward or attacking midfielder, is one of the finest, celebrated and most exciting football talents in the world which makes it somewhat predictable that different teams battle for who to get him in the last few years of his game.

There are other teams of course waiting to welcome him in, amongst which is also his former club, Barcelona. From the early stage of his career, Barcelona got the full brunt of his wins and have received enormous returns for their investment in him.

At the young age of 13, he moved from Argentina to Spain after the FC Barcelona agreed to pay for his medical bills and in 2006, he became the youngest player to score a hat trick in a game against Real Madrid. He also scored up to 11 goals in the last 13 games of the same season.

During his stay in Barcelona, he helped the team win many league titles and tournaments, and became their record scorer with up to 672 goals. This made the Catalan team reluctant to let him go.

Messi joined the French club, Paris Saint-Germain in August 10, 2021 on a two-year deal in the summer transfer window and made his debut for the club on August 29, 2021. When he first joined the club, he said “Everything about the club matches my football ambitions”, however, it took him a while to adjust to the change and he found it hard to score goals in the first few months of joining.

Despite his rocky start at PSG, he has scored 12 goals and currently has 13 assists in 17 appearances in all competitions so far. He has been back to his best this term, already matching his goal tally from last season in the league. He has scored up to four goals in the Champions League while helping the French team ease through their group.

There have been reports of the potential return of the football player to Barcelona and the possible extension of his contract in PSG. However, no decisions have been made yet by the player, as he won’t be entering into any negotiations until after the Qatar World Cup tournament has ended. The tournament, which will run from November 20 to December 18 will be his last world cup with Argentina. Only after this will he go into agreement with another team.

Although, Messi had to leave the Barcelona team for PSG as they could not afford to give him a new contract due to debt from overspending and effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Barcelona team would love to have him back and have stated their clear interest in the soccer wizard.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, joining the MLS club would be the most advanced of Messi’s potential options. He also mentioned that the Mas brothers, Jorge and Jose, who co-own Inter Miami alongside Beckham, are leading the negotiations and are confident of Messi joining them next summer. Messi’s father, Jorge, has also participated in several meetings.

It appears the PSG star is eyeing a place in the MLS, with Inter Miami reportedly in advanced talks over a potential summer move. If Messi eventually decides to join Inter Miami, it would be a huge victory for the club as it was only founded about four years ago and will be the highest-profile signing in MLS history, higher than that of Beckham himself when he made a move to the United States with LA Galaxy in 2007.

Messi once admitted earlier in his career that he had always had a desire to play in America but was not too specific on whether it would eventually happen or not.

“I always had the desire of being able to enjoy and have the experience of living in the United States,” he said. “Of living what that league (MLS) is; what life is like there.

“I would like to play in the United States, later; if it happens or not, I don’t know.”

There are a lot of reasons this move might be a good one for Messi, one of which is a good settling for his family, also having a lot of appeal to someone like him too. He has been seen with his family making numerous visits to the Miami area, last year staying in nearby Key Biscayne.
