The United States Department of Homeland Security issued an alert to citizens on Wednesday, informing them that it anticipates a rise in the danger of assault in the run-up to the 2024 election cycle.
In a National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned that government buildings, religious institutions, and utilities are possible targets for terrorist strikes.
According to the agency, acts of community hate can take the form of graffiti, vandalism, targeted violence, and fire. Security officials also think there is a greater risk if false information about the reliability of the American electoral process spreads.
A training session was given Wednesday night by the Colorado U.S. Attorney’s Office to assist faith-based organizations in getting ready for possible acts of violence.
Cole Finegan, the lead federal security official for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Colorado, stated that “we all share a responsibility to make an effort to help individuals safeguard themself and be conscious of a few of the risks that are present.”
