Kerala, a state in southern India, is on emergency alert after 2 cases of the Nipah virus, an infection with a high rate of death, have been recorded.
Over 700 individuals are undergoing viral testing, and a minimum of 2 adults and 1 child continue to stay in the hospital.
The health minister has announced travel restrictions, stricter isolation rules, and urges not to attend public meetings for ten days as the state strives to battle the infection.
State health minister Veena George said to Reuters, “We are concentrating on identifying connections of infected individuals quickly and isolating everyone with symptoms.”
The state administration reported that as of Wednesday night, 706 people—153 of whom were healthcare professionals—were expecting test results.
