New York City Police Officers Injured Trying To Stop A Stolen Car From Fleeing

Law enforcement sources report that three Port Authority officers were hurt Friday afternoon while attempting to stop a stolen automobile from leaving New York City through the Holland Tunnel.

It was reported to the policemen at about 1:20 p.m. that a stolen Mercedes Benz was making its way toward the tunnel from Manhattan, and they subsequently contacted the New Jersey State Police.

Around 1:30 p.m., a Mercedes drove into the tunnel, and 15 minutes later, Port Authority officers were waiting for it outside.

A source reported that the driver refused to open the door and instead sped off, crashing into three cars and driving over an officer.

Three police officers were injured; two had their hands hurt, while the fourth was struck in the head and knee. A taxi took the three of them to the nearest hospital.

According to reports, the four robbers who were in the Mercedes abandoned the car in Newark before fleeing in another vehicle.

The police are checking the automobile for fingerprints and looking for any video recordings.
