A formerly homeless woman from California visited a Walmart Supercenter to get her oil changed. Her luck, as well as her life, transformed when she scratched a ticket for the lottery valued at millions.

The California Lottery reported on Wednesday that Lucia Forseth, who purchased the ticket at the shop in Pittsburg, some 40 miles east of San Francisco, earned $5 million in a Scratchers game.

Forseth claimed that after choosing a ticket, she shut her eyes. She opened up to discover that she had suddenly become rich. According to Forseth, “You don’t realize you’re going to have an opportunity of winning it,” the California Lottery stated in a press statement. “It’s completely random.”

Forseth initially believed she had just purchased another winning ticket. “But I examined it, and it showed I got $5 million” she stated.

She becomes California’s 3rd Scratchers winner of the year with her 2023 victory. There continue to be two $5 million tickets available. The California Lottery estimates that the chances of winning the game are one in 3,088,854.
