He launched his first solo album “Lionel Richie” in 1982, and it contained three hits: “Truly,” “You Are,” and, of course, the title track “My Love.” It sounded a lot like the Commodores in terms of style. After peaking at number three, this album went on to sell over four million copies worldwide. It was released in 1983 and sold twice as many albums as “Lionel Richie,” which he had previously published in the same year. Also winning two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for “Can’t Slow Down,” was “Can’t Stop.” He performed at the 1984 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in Los Angeles with “All Night Long,” one of the album’s most popular tracks.
