The Texas Supreme Court ruled that Governor Greg Abbott was beyond his rights when he removed the mask restrictions that cities had in place throughout the Covid-19 outbreak.
On Friday, the court decided that state law allows the governor “the legal right” to make these choices “throughout a declared crisis.”
At the moment, the decision may be primarily symbolic because Abbott declined to extend the state’s Covid-19 emergency classification when it came to an end in June.
On September 1st, Senate Bill 29 is expected to go into law, banning “a vaccine requirement, mask demand, or private company or educational institution closure to avoid the transmission of COVID-19.”
