A common supplement used to improve workout performance and accelerate muscle growth is creatine, an amino acid that is essential for the functioning of the brain and muscles.

A recent clinical trial reported in the journal Food Science & Nutrition raises the possibility that dietary creatine may potentially be beneficial for people suffering from extended COVID, also known as post-COVID-19 fatigue syndrome.

Twelve participants with post-COVID-19 fatigue syndrome were randomly assigned to receive either a placebo or 4 grams of creatine monohydrate daily for six months in the study. At both the 3-month and 6-month follow-ups, creatine levels were significantly elevated in the brain and the muscles of the legs.

After three months of supplementation, general fatigue was also significantly reduced, and at the six-month follow-up, results for several symptoms associated with post-COVID-19 fatigue syndrome, such as taste loss, breathing issues, pain in the body, migraines, and difficulty concentrating, were also greatly improved.
