The mortality rate for Black mothers continued to rise more than other races in Mississippi due to various pregnancy-related deaths, wherein the high mortality rate for Black mothers proved that there is a lack of primary care provided to pregnant women during their pregnancy.

According to a report published in US News, the mortality rate for Black mothers increased following high numbers of deaths of Black women during or after pregnancy due to different health problems, including hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, which contributed to the rising mortality rate for Black mothers.

With the high mortality rate for Black mothers, health experts claimed that despite health departments available to pregnant women suffering from health problems, there are insufficient healthcare services provided to them, especially to Black women due to limited resources and programs, leading to the increasing mortality rate for Black mothers.

Local Organizations Demand Mississippi Leaders to Expand Programs for Pregnant Women Following High Mortality Rate for Black Mothers

Following the increasing mortality rate for Black mothers, local organizations demanded Mississippi leaders to expand programs, such as Medicaid, for pregnant women to access better healthcare services before, during, and after their pregnancy.

Critics also claimed that healthcare providers should undergo proper training that will help them to provide the right care to pregnant women with health problems to reduce the high mortality rate for Black mothers, NBC News reported.
