This program, established by the plan’s trustees in August, provides support to members who lost, or were on the brink of losing, coverage with the Directors Guild of America plan due to work disruptions caused by the strikes.
The Directors Guild of America’s board of trustees has unanimously voted to extend the duration of a crucial free medical program for members affected by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes this summer
Initially slated to run from October 1 until the close of 2023, it has now been prolonged until the end of March 2024. Directors Guild of America President Lesli Linka Glatter expressed her pride in the decision, emphasizing the importance of providing essential health coverage to eligible participants and their dependents during these challenging times of unemployment brought about by recent and past strikes.
Glatter emphasized the significance of looking out for one another and praised the extension for its positive impact on the long-term well-being of the Directors Guild of America community
This extension mirrors similar moves made by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA to safeguard their members’ healthcare benefits during the strike. While the WGA strike has concluded with an anticipated ratification of a tentative agreement, SAG-AFTRA has resumed negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers in the hopes of securing a resolution later this month.
